Notion wanted to create an AI assistant to work across different tools such as Google Suite, Slack, and Notion to streamline organisation and productivity for users. The AI assistant needed to be characterised and animated with different resting and working faces, such as blinking, looking around, and shifting based on the task at hand.
Their challenge was to take the minimal character and create a dynamic presence that could work anywhere across Notion’s universe. “[Notion AI] looks like if Microsoft’s Clippy grew up drinking dirty martinis and reading New Yorker cartoons,” according to Mark Wilson from Fast Company.
